The practice of yogasana is a confluence of many streams of knowledge and experience: tradition and lineage, science and structure, the feel and the insight. How do we unify the inner with the outer, and the subjective with the objective? Join Erin for 40 hours to immerse into the questions and the details that swirl into this confluence.
We will study 5-6 asana each weekend, looking at the details that comprise steady, blissful postures. The details of alignment (the intended actions of an asana) and anatomy (a study of the body) will be supported by larger conversations about individual abilities, biomechanics, enculturated habits and the aesthetics of yoga. Each day will include practicing and observing, discussing and thinking, moving and experimenting. Each weekend will be enveloped in a teaching from the Yoga Sutra or the Bhagavad Gita, which we will learn through chanting.
In general, our work will aim to clarify and edify each student’s understanding of their own asana practice. If you are a yoga teacher, you can fully expect this to change how you view the abilities of movement of your students. Critical thinking skills and embodied understanding will be emphasized. There will be plenty of time for questions.
This immersion is open to dedicated yoga students and yoga teachers. You are not required to be advanced in your practice, but a maturity in practice is required. This will count as 40 continuing education hours with the Yoga Alliance. Your attendance in full is expected. There will be several reading assignments for homework.
Please let Erin know if you have any questions about this course. Prior to paying, please discuss (at the studio, or via email) your interest in attending with Erin.
